Toros Athletics is asking students to check their closets for old shoes to donate to those in need.

Recently, the Student Athletic Advisory Committee and the Athletic Department sealed ties with Soles4Souls, a non-profit organization aimed to help people who are living without the necessities.

Soles4Souls distributes over 30 million pairs of shoes to over 100 different countries and all 50 states.

Members of SAAC wanted to join the movement and add to the already staggering numbers by starting a shoe drive.

“We wanted full participation in this,” said Kayla Lock, SAAC campus engagement coordinator.

Hoping to make an impact, the department and students involved have high expectations and goals for this drive.

“Our goal is to raise two pairs of shoes for every athlete at this school,” Lock said.

With 174 student athletes attending CSUDH the goal is almost 350 pairs of shoes, a goal that can be accomplished with the help of the student body.

There are bins located in SAC-3 for students to drop off their used shoes. Soles4Souls accepts all kinds of shoes, in any condition and each pair makes a difference.

Final collections for the shoes will be due May 19.
