The women’s volleyball team has had a difficult season so far. They started off the week with three straight losses against UC San Diego (1-3), Cal State San Marcos (2-3), and Cal State San Bernardino (1-3).

Toros came out fired up at home and swept visiting team Cal Poly Pomona  (25, 20), (25, 22), (26, 24).

Morelia Castro, junior, had 10 kills that night on 13 attempts, for a .769 percentage, as CSUDH hit .225 as a team to match its season-best effort.

With Toro Vanessa Phyakeo’s 15 kills, Cal State Dominguez Hills continued their second streak in a roll while visiting San Francisco State with a win of (3-2).

CSUDH also tallied more kills (+1), blocks (+5), assists (+2) and digs (+8), while SFSU found success at the service line, serving 11 more aces than the Cardinal and Gold.

That was followed by a sweep from Sonoma State. Vanessa Phyakeo led the Toros with seven kills while Bridget Heins posted a team best 400 hitting percentage with five kills and just one attack mistake, but that wasn’t enough to prevent the Toro’s  25-11, 25-17, 25-17 defeat.

It has been a tough season for the Toro women’s volleyball team with a record of five wins and nine losses.

Next week they face Cal State East Bay and Cal State Monterey Bay here at home.
