The Women’s Resource Center empowers women via programs, events and opportunities.
It provides a safe place for women to discuss and analyze issues that affect them and their community and helps them reach personal, academic and professional goals.
Although the center is assumed to be only for women, all students, faculty, staff and administrators are welcome to use its services.
The center provides a free food pantry, study space, computers, microwave, workshops, fridge, books, private lactation rooms for nursing mothers (available by appointment only), hygiene products, pads and tampons.
“Most college students are broke and can’t afford food, so it is important to have the food pantry for students to utilize,” said Deja Maduro, student programmer.
The center was founded in 1972, due to political and social activism in the late 1960s and early 1970s. The center closed in 2009, due to budget cuts, but it reopened in 2014.
The Women’s Resource Center is hosting two major upcoming events. The women’s retreat Oct. 6-8, and the women’s conference in the spring.
This year the women’s retreat is called “The Body, Embodiment and Resistance.” The retreat is aimed at empowering women to be confident, provide them with a sense of identity, networking and forming bonds.
If you’re interested in the services or wish to attend one of the upcoming events, visit the center in the Small Business Complex, Room 148, or call (310) 243-2486.
