Not another New Years Resolutions

Make this upcoming Year the most fulfilling one yet.

With the year coming to a close, many will start to make a plan, or some set of resolutions or goals wanting to be accomplished. Are these set of resolutions realistic at this point or are they just a waste of time?

New Years means new beginnings. That can be for anything really but is the trend of starting new year’s resolutions actually a healthy one or is it a pointless trend at this point?

The thought of having a New Year’s resolution is not unhealthy or bad in any way since it is ultimately being made for a more positive change in one’s life but the thought of making short term goals rather than long term goals is where it becomes unhealthy.

In order to have a more sustainable long-term goal there must be a routine set and one that is able to be built off of and make into something more lasting. Coming up with a plan to navigate the road to a successful routine rather than the goal itself will pay off in the long run.

Instead of diet trends strive for small healthier changes that will build into a regular day-to-day routine. Being at the gym the first of January is not mandatory or no longer has to be the stepping stone in wanting to improve health goals.

While health may be the main focus of wanting to make a new years resolution it does not have to be the only goal that has to be achieved.

When Brianna Cardona thinks about New Year’s resolutions she thinks they are a promise you make to yourself to try to improve yourself. She wants to keep up her habit of doing squats since it worked out well for her during the summer. Her second new year resolution is to try to move out during the new year.

Reflecting on the past year and what changes one feels need to happen in order to live a more successful life can be helpful. Writing down the goals and keeping them somewhere that is visual on a daily basis can be helpful in remembering the why in wanting to pursue this change.

Another way to stay on top of any new year resolution goals could be to make a new goal for each month of the year and really take that month to solely focus on that one goal for the entire month.

Remember to not become so fixated on what may seem as a short term goal that anxiety and stress begin to take over instead of a happy satisfied feeling. No goal should leave anyone feeling defeated. That being said, everyone is on a separate journey and comparison has never brought anything good out of it.

The important thing here is that these new year resolutions are meant to be lasting changes that will benefit everyday lives in a positive way and not strain anyone in the process of trying to achieve them. New Year’s resolutions should be about the lasting changes and not the temporary changes.
