Over summer break, improvements were made to campus parking lots and roads. Lot 3, Student Health Center lot and Toro Center Drive all received routine maintenance and repairs.
Repairs totaled about $342,000.
Like many state colleges, Cal State Dominguez Hills has a Parking Services program to help with impacted lots.
This CSUDH program is a self-supported operation that is its own source of revenue. Parking Services uses money from the amount charged for parking fees and permits for construction, operation and maintenance of parking facilities.
“The repairs to the campus roads and parking lots are an excellent example of your parking fees at work,” said Police Chief Carlos Velez.
Velez said this is the second consecutive summer that Parking Services and Facility Services have partnered to ensure campus lots and roadways are well-maintained.
According to Velez, there were some minor challenges faced during construction. Since the construction was to be completed before fall classes began, work had to be done under a strict and limited time frame. The project was started in mid-July and took four weeks. More work is planned.
“Our goal is to have all campus roadways and lots well maintained on a regular schedule by the end of summer 2017,” Velez said.
