The Cal State Dominguez Hills men’s soccer team continues its strong showing in the California Collegiate Athletic Association, after defeating Cal State Monterey Bay, 4-0 on Oct. 2 at Toro Stadium.
CSUDH was led by junior midfielder Joey Chica, who recorded his first career hat trick.
Chica leads the CCAA in goals with 10, following behind him are junior midfielder Sergi Monso (8) and senior forward Omar Nuño (6).
Junior defender Emmanuel Corona, gave the Toros an early lead of 1-0 with a header into the net off an assist by Chica and junior forward Angel Ayala.
The Toros led all game, even with Monterey Bay having the edge on corner kicks, 11-3, but CSUDH had more shots on goal 9-5.
With the victory, the Toros move to 7-2-1, 4-0 in CCAA play.
CSUDH is the only undefeated team remaining in CCAA play after Cal State Los Angeles’ 1-0 loss to San Francisco State later that day. The two teams will meet Oct. 5 at CSULA’s Jesse Owens Stadium at 7 p.m.
The Toros will try to avenge their Sept. 24, 3-0 defeat against the Golden Eagles. The loss had no CCAA implication, but offensively the Toros were shutout at home for the first time this season.
This will be the first game of a four game road trip for the Toros, who will face Chico State, Cal State San Marcos and UC San Diego in the coming week.
