Help for those with test anxiety

Cal State Dominguez Hills students are constantly striving toward success.
There are times throughout the semester that can seem unbearable.
This often leads to anxiety, particularly when it comes to test-taking.
So-called “test anxiety” comes in different forms. Students can suffer from nausea, impaired concentration, heavy breathing and rapid heart rates, headaches, racing thoughts and feelings of “being on edge.”
The severity of these symptoms can affect individuals differently. Some easily cope while others suffer the ill effects and cannot perform properly on exams – even when they’re prepared for them.
There are campus resources for those who feel they are in need of help with test anxiety.
Those interested in help would need to provide documentation from schools that they previuosly attended and received assistance from.
Those without documentation can visit campus psychologists for assessments to see if documentation is needed for services.
The Student Disability Center offers reasonable accommodations to those dealing with test anxiety to ensure that they succeed.
There are many options, such as providing extra time to take tests, providing different testing sites, providing audio recordings instead of written tests, electronic devices and more.
Each support is designed specifically to the students’ needs. For more information visit csudh.edu/studentservices or the Student Disability Center.
