California State University, Dominguez Hills will switch from in-person to temporary remote instruction for the first three weeks of the spring semester due to the rapid increase of COVID-19 cases.

According to the email by  President Thomas A. Parham, the university will join the additional eleven  CSUs who have also announced they are starting their semester online, California State University, Northridge is the most recent.

“Courses will begin in an online modality on January 24, and face-to-face instruction will now start on Monday, Feb. 14,” reads the email, an administrative decision that as the Daily Breeze reported, was not to be expected this week.

The decision was made the same day the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health reported 43,700 new COVID-19 cases. This set another daily case record for the second day in a row.

The number of COVID-19 positive patients hasn’t been that high since mid-February of 2021.

The campus-wide email also specified there will be additional updates next week and that campus will continue to be open although additional university staff will be asked to work from home.
