The Bulletin welcomes comments and feedback from the Dominguez Hills campus community. Editorials and letters to the editor can be sent to The Bulletin’s faculty advisor at aelrashidi@csudh.edu.

In the previous issue of The Bulletin, a reporter and assistant coach raised the issue of the lack of shower facilities in the gym. I’d like to provide readers with more context around this story, and I’ll start with the good news: the project is only days from completion. There is one final inspection and cleaning scheduled, and by Mar. 15 it should be ready for Athletics to use for an upcoming tournament.

The interruptions to service are unfortunate, and it’s something that our team has worked to mitigate as much as possible. This project has been an urgent priority for Facilities and Athletics from the start, and we have worked in partnership throughout to put students’ interests first.

We chose to do the demolition between late December and early January in order to minimize athletes’ exposure to noise and construction debris. Since December, construction has proceeded with constant coordination between Facilities and the Athletics Department. There were a few interruptions along the way due to games in the gym, but we worked closely with Athletics to ensure they were aware of the potential delays this would cause.

We truly appreciate the patience of our students and staff throughout this process. Construction is always disruptive and an inconvenience, but we are excited that our athletes will be able to enjoy the new facilities in just a few days.
