CSUDH shared the first name of the student that lost her life on March 12, 2022, named Atahjheé “Tada.” The student was an undergraduate studio art major that lost her life in an isolated incident in campus housing, read an email by CSUDH Student Affairs sent to the campus community.

“The loss of one of our own is tragic and can be difficult to even comprehend. In times like these, we must come together to grieve and heal. Take care of yourselves and one another,” Vice President Dr. William Franklin for Student Affairs at CSUDH stated in the email.

Campus housing was contacted by The Bulletin to gather more context about the tragedy but minimal information was provided from University officials due to the high sensitivity of the situation.

“When there is more to share, we will share it with the entire campus community. Out of respect for the family, after only a few days, there is no more context. We appreciate your patience and partnership during this difficult time” responded Franklin to a follow up email from The Bulletin asking for more information in an email.

“The family has requested privacy at this time. Understanding the incredible grief that they’re experiencing, we will respect their wishes and encourage those who knew her to continue recognizing her,” said Franklin in an updated follow up email on March 19.

CSUDH Police was contacted for more information but there was no response.

Staff from the Division of Student Affairs is in close contact with the family and the CSUDH community for additional support if needed.

In the email additional resources that were provided were contact information to Student Psychological Services (310) 243-3818 and the Los Angeles County Mental Health Crisis Hotline (800) 854-7771 for anyone who is in need of assistance.

Student Psychological Services (SPS) on campus are a resource students can utilize where the “commitment is to provide quality mental healthcare and create a community of wellness,” says their mission statement on the CSUDH website under the student support tab. Students can schedule an appointment to get in touch with a campus psychological counselor by calling the department and administrative support will help with the process.

The Los Angeles County Mental Health Crisis Hotline allows individuals to get in contact with help line staff that provides services such as mental health screening and assessments, crisis counseling, and referrals to service providers.
