A brief walk through the Farmers Market on Feb. 22
By Evelyn Rodriguez, Staff Reporter
he Farmers Market is on campus every Tuesday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. for the entire spring semester. It is located at the South Walkway between the bookstore and the Leo F. Cain library; the Office of Sustainability is a co-sponsor of the farmers market. Volunteers from the Sustainability Program visit campus dining areas to pick up food items that are not being sold or used and distribute them to food pantries on campus, which are then given to students in need.
“We could definitely use more food stands, before we had food trucks, a barbecue stand and more variety,” CSUDH student, Nallely Sixtos said.
Sinful Indulgence has a stand at the Farmers Market that sells cookies, pies, French Macarons, and brownies. According to Sinful Indulgence, their best sellers are the French Macarons especially the Ube Cheesecake and Red Velvet flavors, as for the cookies it’s the Ube Overload.
The campus Urban Farm delivers fresh fruit and produce to campus dining so they can incorporate them in dishes being sold. They also make deliveries to the food pantries for students to enjoy.
By students purchasing items from the Farmers Market they help the local community, support local businesses and increase community access to viable farmed foods.
