Students at last week’s Farmers Market were in for a real treat when the Toro Pep Band held a performance in front of the Sculpture Garden.

The band performed a variety of past and contemporary hits, including “Rock Around the Clock” by Bill Haley and His Comets, “YMCA” by the Village People, “I Gotta Feeling” by the Black-Eyed Peas, and the theme to 1984’s Ghostbusters.

The Toro Pep Band is directed by Dr. Chicka Inoue, and together they’ve been playing at athletic, social, and academic events all over campus.

She said the band has been playing at the Farmer’s Market since last semester and hopes that their performances will create more notoriety.

“We want to get more people out to the Farmer’s Market,” Inoue said.

Music Education major Nicholas Miller, has been in the band for three semesters. He thinks that performing at the Farmers Market is a great way for the music department to get involved in day-to-day life on campus.

“Our studying musicians here get to take what they know in the classroom and share it with their fellow students, and with the community [since] this is a Farmers Market,” Miller said.

The Toro Pep band will be playing at more volleyball games throughout the season and  they also plan on playing at basketball games once the new season starts.
