Men’s, Women’s squad take the court against CCAA rivals

With winter break just around the corner, Toros Basketball will look to score key wins against some of their biggest rivals. The men’s and women’s squads will host eight games at the Torodome over the next six weeks, including seven match-ups against conference opponents.

The women’s team made a historic run last season, but recently seems to have lost some of that momentum. With an overall record of 2-5, the team has yet to score a victory in CCAA play – a rough start for a group that went 31-3 during the 2022-23 season. But that all could change on Dec. 7, when the Toros take on the Warriors of Stanislaus State University.  There is enough talent on the Toro roster to turn things around with Junior forward Asia Jordan, Sophomore guard Nala Williams, and Junior guard Danyell Booker all averaging over ten points per game.

The Toro men’s team is off to a strong start, with an overall record of 6-1. The team has remains undefeated in conference play, and boasts a positive scoring margin of 7.7 against their opponents – that’s up significantly from negative 0.9 last year. A strong showing during winter break would surely bolster the team’s hopes to walk away with a CCAA Championship.

Every game of the Toro Basketball action will take place on Thursdays and Saturdays except for Tuesday, Dec. 19 when the women face Bethesda. During this stretch, the men’s and women’s teams will both play eight home games at the Torodome that any student can attend for free. The men and women are hoping to come back in the spring semester at the top of the CCAA standings.
