The Fitness Center underwent a $200,000 renovation over the winter break, according to Cal State Dominguez Hills Athletic Director Jeff Falkner.
Falkner said the money used to cover the expenses was allocated from the president’s division budget.
The president’s division budget has a $3.1 million budget for 2015-16, according to the CSUDH 2015-16 Operating Fund and Expenditure Summary.
Toro athletes said they like the improved facility.
“We feel better working out here,” said CSUDH women’s basketball guard Lisa Rhett, a senior. “We got new equipment and it’s a better atmosphere.”
Falkner said CSUDH would benefit from a Fitness Center that could meet the needs of the entire campus.
The renovation aims to provide a better use of the existing space, which was very limited beforehand, according to Falkner.
Previous equipment was outdated and some of it was no longer functioning.
According to Falkner, the old equipment was offered to be relocated for its use somewhere on campus, but no place could be found.
Students can access the renovated Fitness Center, which is located in FH B-017, from noon to 2 p.m. on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, and 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays.
A valid student I.D. is required. Users must also sign a waiver they can obtain at www.gotoros.com. The waiver must be on file prior to working out.
CSUDH staff, faculty and students can all use the center with proper I.D. But they must have their own towel, be dressed in workout gear and wear closed-toe shoes.
