Cal State Dominguez Hills women’s soccer team hosted Concordia University Irvine on Sept. 8 at Toro Stadium in a nonconference game.
The Toros started off strong with a goal in the seventh minute to give them the early lead. It was midfielder Dana Dibble who then found midfielder Louise Kallin on a long pass.
The pass set up Kallin and the defenders in a one-on-one situation with the goalkeeper.
Kallin used her skill to dribble around the goalkeeper and put the ball into the net.
Then, 18 minutes later, Carmany Jones hammered home a shot from 35 yards out to give CUI the lead with just under 20 minutes remaining in the first half.
CUI was unable to score off of two corner kick opportunities in the 35th and 38th minutes, and the first half ended in a 1-1 draw.
Just four minutes into the second half, CUI was able to break the tie from a cross by Cienah Reed into the box that found Kryssa Johnson for the goal.
After going down 2-1, the Toros were just unable to get much offense going, mustering up just two shots in the second half. CUI didn’t make their job any easier with their ability to maintain possession with cleaner passing.
It was in the 80th minute that CUI put the game out of reach with a goal by Mckenna Carrillo.
